The Resort:
On the border of Andorra and France, Grandvalira is the biggest ski area in the Pyrenees. It has a huge 210km of piste making it one of the world’s 30 biggest ski resorts and the first resort outside of the alps to offer over 200km of ski runs. Its high-altitude skiing which provides gorgeous panoramic views and its excellent snow record make it an exceptional location for a school ski trip.
Skiing in:
210km of skiable slopes on one lift pass shows why Grandvalira has a reputation for being an outstanding resort. It regularly hosts international competitions including the Speed Skiing World Championships. The vast range of red and blue runs provides quality slopes for beginner and intermediate skiers. El Tarter allows skiers to develop their high-altitude skiing as you ski from top to bottom down the sloping blue runs. The El Tarter sector also offers customised camps at the freestyle centre for a different but entertaining session. Ski storage at the top of the mountains makes accessibility around the resort easy, whilst ski in ski out accommodation is also available. Lift passes are also valid for the fun Ordino Arcalis resort to allow for more adventures. The recent increase in snow canons means snowmaking facilities now cover 65% of the area.
For Schools Because:
The resort has an excellent selection of seven ski and snowboard schools as well as a high-altitude beginner area that allows students with little or no experience to get to grips with the slopes. Grandvalira is also ideal for school trips as it has an outstanding lift capacity of up to 100,000 skiers per hour maximising time spent on the slopes. Additionally, there is fantastic Wi-Fi coverage so you can track your progress on the pistes. Public transport access via train and bus is also exemplary adding to the ease and accessibility of the resort.
Après Ski:
A wide range of exciting activities are available at Grandvalira including ice driving, paintballing, and mushing – sleds drawn by a team of dogs. You can also visit the magnificent Ice hotel and igloo bars located in the area. In the nearby town and the capital city of Andorra, duty-free shopping creates an entertaining afternoon on the slopes.
